Rogues Roost is approximately 10 nautical miles south west of the entrance to Halifax Harbour. Located behind Hearn? Island, it is between Lower Prospect and Prospect. It is part of the Proposed Prospect Coastal Wilderness Area which lies on the south coast of the Chebucto Peninsula, between Pennant Point and Peggy's Cove, and extending north to Nova Scotia Highway Route 333.

Traffic picks up on the weekends, but it is often busy even in the middle of the week, especially in July and August.

Rogues Roost - Entrance: Exiting Rogue's roost. Note the large rock!Rogues Roost - Entrance: Exiting Rogue's roost. Note the large rock! The anchorage itself is very well sheltered in all conditions. Located behind Hearn Island, you enter the anchorage through a very narrow channel. It is very important to keep to the starboard side of the channel when entering (to port when leaving.) . Deep water lies to the east, and to avoid a rock (awash at low tide) in the middle of the channel, you need to hug the eastern side of the channel. To this sailor it feels rather uncomfortable. Having hit the rock once I have overcome this fear recently.

We have seen porpoises, harbor seals and lots of different types of birds (including osprey and eagles) in this anchorage. Ashore you can find fields of blueberries for picking. I have heard of sailors harvesting the mussels which cling to the rocky entrances.
