Izu Shichito (Izu Shoto) (32°20'N., 130°50'E.) is the N group of the chain of islands known as Nampo Shoto. The group extends SSW from O Shima to Sofu Gan, a distance of 300 miles. Many of the islands reveal continuing volcanic activity, such as the pouring forth of steam and sulfurous fumes, the appearance of new cones, and eruptions and earthquakes of varying intensity.
