Marapa Island (Malapa Island) (9°48'S., 160°52'E.), the largest island in Marau Sound, has a ridge extending along the length of the island. This ridge rises to an elevation of 201m in a rounded summit at its N end, and is a good mark for a vessel approaching the sound from the NW.
