Anchorage, Killbear Park

Northwest from the town of Parry Sound is Killbear Point Provincial Park at Kilcoursie Bay. The park offers a great beach, and many services including showers, water, recycling and garbage disposal. There is no fee for anchoring in the designated mooring - we have seen over 20 boats at anchor here - but if you utilize any of these park services you are expected to pay the daily park fee. There is camping available at the posted fee rates.
The main anchorage is off the beach area and is designated by bouys and is good in all but an east wind, having little protection on that side. Close to the marked anchorage is a small rock-bound cove in which about half a dozen boats can set anchors, raft together and stern tie to shore. The bottom is sand and nearer shore there are sand bars to watch for. Care should be taken when approaching close to shore.
In a severe storm, transient dockage is available at the Kilbear Marina to the west of the anchorage in sheltered Pengallie Bay. An excellent marina, gas, pumpouts, showers, and chandlery and an excellent restaurant. Basic supplies can be found in the shop under the restaurant.
The Park has several good walking/biking trails to stretch your boat-bound muscles.
