Day 47 - Thessalon Marina
Fishing Boat at the Thessalon Marina
It is now noon and most of the storms have passed but we are still under a small craft warning for wind and waves so here we sit in Thessalon. Out here in the middle of nowhere we have excellent service for our Bell phone and our internet. Go figure. We are about 45 kms east of Sault Ste. Marie so maybe there is a tower close by.
Arising about 7, I heard the sailors on the dock discussing whether they would leave or not and decided they would stay to “wait it out” so Phil got on the internet to the weather channel and checked out the radar for the area. When it has yellow spots, you stay where you are; if they are red, you hide in the hold! So there I was, clearing the entrance to the hold when the big yellow labrador, Taylor, from one of the Michigan boats, decided to come on board and tried to get in with me! Apparently he is very much afraid of thunder but this is the first time he has actually ever gone on board someone else’s boat. They had fun coaxing him off - he was just shaking.
We all survived the rain and actually think there were a few hail pellets mixed in with it. There were several waves of heavy rain and there sat Phil, in front of the computer - unplugged of course - watching the storm go over on the rader. Can you tell he hasn’t enough to do???
So here we sit, staying for another night and hopefully things will improve by tomorrow.
I have decided to send out this epistle as we are not sure what kind of cell or internet service to expect once we cross the border. We have been told that there is very little cell service but have also read that most of the marinas are tied into a WIFI net for all the marinas around the lake. So if you don’t hear from us for awhile, you’ll know why.
