Porlier Pass (Cowichan Gap) (49°01'N., 123°35'W.), which separates Galiano Island from Valdes Island, connects Trincomali Channel with the Strait of Georgia. This passage has a least width of about 0.4 mile, but the navigable channel is constricted. The fairway has a least depth of 8.8m and the tidal currents are strong. The best time to transit this passage is during slack water. Local knowledge is advisable.
