BENNANE HEAD

TidesCurrents. The flood current expands after passing the Mull of Kintyre and its NE part impinges on Bennane Head (55°08'N., 5°00'W.), where it divides. One branch sets NNE along the Ayrshire coast where it is rather weak in the outer firth, becoming stronger within the firth as it runs parallel to the coast. Velocities increase during springs off salient points and in constricted channels. The currents divide around the Cumbrae Islands, becoming weak to the head of the firth. Detailed information is shown on charts of the area.
