The tidal currents in the various passages turn at about the time of HW and LW. In Tokowa Channel, the tidal currents set in the direction of the channel and attain a maximum rate of 3 knots at flood and 2.5 knots at ebb. The tidal currents in Reiher Pass attain a rate of 2.5 knots and set onto the reefs, making navigation difficult. In Acharan Passage the currents set directly through the channel at a rate of about 2 knots.
