Tidal ranges of 4 to 6.1m may be experienced in the inlet. From Cape William Smith, the S entrance point of Forbes Sound, the coast trends SSW for 45 miles and then SSE for 16 miles to Alluviaq Fjord (Abloviak Fiord). This section of irregular coast, which is unsurveyed, is broken by bays and inlets and fronted with numerous rocks and islets. Vessels unfamiliar with the area should exercise extreme caution when navigating within 12 miles of this part of the coast.
